  4. *Sharing Copyrighted Software, Movies, or Music is Illegal!*
  5. *Protect your self from being procecuted!*
  6. Do not let people who are not sharing flies download from you!
  7. These people who do not share files could be the MPAA, RIAA, BSA,
  8. SIIA*, or other associations/businesses trying to bust you! By law
  9. these groups cannot share illegal files when they use file
  10. sharing networks like WinMX to catch those who share copyrighted
  11. material.

  13. ######Tips to Downloading######
  14. **Share files! Many people will cancel your download or make you
  15.   wait endlessly in their queue unless you share files. WinMX is
  16.   based around the idea that people SHARE. You cannot only take
  17.   take take. NO FREELOADING!!! *Zero tolerance on freeloading!*
  18.  
  19. **Share better files! If you only share mp3s, then many people
  20.   will only let you download mp3s in return. If you want to
  21.   download movies and software, then share that in return.
  22.   Don't tortue people sharing software by making them look through 3000 mp3s
  23.  
  24. ** Create Separate Folders for Sharing Software /Mp3s /Avi get the idea
  25.   then when your looking to get software only share software and so on
  26.  
  27. **Do not share crap! e.g. Do not share incomplete files, useless
  28.   system files, etc. This slows down the entire
  29.   network.

  31. **If you are downloading from someone who is in your queue, then
  32.   start their download immediately. If you do not you risk having
  33.   your download canceled.
  34.  
  35. **Browse the files of people who are downloading off of you. You
  36.   may find something you want to download and people who are
  37.   downloading off of you are more likely to start your download.

  39. **Send messges to people. This increases the chances that your
  40.   your download will be started.
  41.  
  42. **Use NapMX (http://napmx.darkservers.net/) to connect to more servers.
  43.   This increases the people availible for you to download from.

  45. **Tweak WinMX for faster downloads: Click 'Settings', 'Bandwidth
  46.   Throttle', uncheck both of the limit bandwidth boxes. If you
  47.   limit the outgoing download (e.g. people downloading from you),
  48.   then they will limit your download speed. Everyone looses.

  50. **If possible leave your computer on and connected to WinMX 24/7.
  51.   You do not have to be sitting at your computer to download a
  52.   file.

  54. **Share this file to spread the word!

  64. Tweak for Fewer Time Outs:
  65.  
  66. If possible (you're not behind a firewall that blocks it and have no way of opening the port)
  67. use the Listen on Port XXXX for incoming TCP connections in Settings, Connection, 
  68. Firewall/Network Settings.  This will greatly reduce the number of Lost Connection and 
  69. TimeOuts waiting for incoming connection.  
  70. This of course all depends on what the other user has set.  If everyone has these setting
  71. we probably will not see Timeouts again.  If you use Zone Alarm it will show two MX Icons
  72. in the programs area, the one you see when using WinMX and the other if you move your
  73. pointer over it will say something like Listening on port XXXX.

  82. Improve your shares for better (no boot, no cancel) access.

  93. You can filter out LAMERS who share nothing and
  94. only LEECH from you. This will get you better stuff, faster.
  95. Click the "Shared Files" folder at the top of your left screen
  96. to see what you are sharing.

  98. You will get PRIORITY access for having good shares.
